About the Role

The Process Safety Engineer will join the Lebanon API Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) team to provide technical leadership in the development, implementation, and maintenance of process safety management systems. You will support the project during its construction, startup, and operational phases, with a focus on ensuring safety, compliance, and a strong process safety culture throughout the project lifecycle.

In this dynamic and collaborative role, you will help to build and support systems that enable the successful startup of a world-class manufacturing facility. The role will require significant interaction with cross-functional teams, creative problem solving, and a commitment to resilience as the site transitions into GMP operations.

Key Responsibilities:
Support the development and implementation of the process safety management operational readiness plan for the Lebanon API facility, working closely with the HSE team.

Provide technical input and feedback to the project team on process safety design, construction, and startup plans, ensuring compliance with project deliverables and regulations.

Oversee and support process hazard analysis (PHA), facility siting studies, and the implementation of associated safety protocols.

Develop, implement, and roll out key process safety management (PSM) program elements, including employee participation, Management of Change (MOC), Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR), and PHA.

Provide training, mentoring, and onboarding support to new staff to foster a strong process safety culture at the site.

Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to manage change, ensure safety, and set requirements for safe startup and ongoing operations.

Apply industry codes and standards such as NFPA 30 (combustible liquids), NFPA 652 (combustible dust), and overpressure protection during project reviews and MOC assessments.

Build relationships with corporate and site process safety colleagues, and network with external organizations like the Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS) and Purdue Process Safety and Assurance Center (P2SAC).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.

  • 5+ years of experience in chemical or pharmaceutical manufacturing.

  • Strong knowledge and experience in process safety management, including familiarity with OSHA PSM regulations.

  • Trained in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) facilitation, HAZOP, and What-If Methodologies.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Process Safety Professional (CCPSC) or Professional Engineer (PE).

  • Strong analytical skills and a structured, systematic approach to problem-solving.

  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills.

  • Trained in Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA).

  • Knowledge of EPA Risk Management Plan (RMP).

  • Experience interfacing with HSE-related regulatory agencies.
