From Summer to School

School comes with strict wake-up times, packed schedules, and new expectations, much different than the light and lazy days of summer. Transitioning from summer to back-to-school season can be tough on both kids and parents. Luckily, there are many ways to make this change easier on families.

Going from summer mode to school mode takes time. Adjusting to this change can be easier if the transition process is incorporated little by little a few weeks before school starts. This can be as simple as making bedtime earlier and setting an alarm clock. This is especially important for kids who are not used to waking up early. Once the first day of school arrives, everyone will feel ready and not groggy.

Establishing a routine that works well for you and your family is something that will make the transition from summer to school easier for everyone. This means having a set bedtime and wake-up time and determining when lunches for school and work will be packed. By having these simple routines in place, your family will know what to expect each day and will be better prepared for the school year.

Starting school can be nerve racking for kids. Sitting down and discussing your child’s concerns with them can be helpful. This builds a strong connection and shows them that you are there for them. School may present many challenges and devising a plan to help them overcome these challenges will be less stressful for both of you.

Adapting to school again after enjoying a long summer off can be challenging, but using these helpful tips can allow for a smooth start to the school year for both kids and parents.
